Breda Fly Fishing

A rare and historic opportunity to fish 2.5 miles of the River Don

Private single bank fly fishing on one of Scotland’s most characterful rivers. A stretch not opened to the public for many years, now carefully shared in the heart of West Aberdeenshire.

Welcome to Breda Fly Fishing

Anglers are invited to experience 2.5 miles of private single bank fishing on the River Don. Owned by the late Laird Hamish Maclean and now lovingly shared by his widow Lorna, Breda Fly Fishing offers an exceptional sporting and natural experience set within unspoilt countryside.

This magnificent water combines tradition, privacy and outstanding fishing on one of Scotland’s most productive and beautiful stretches of river.

The Fishings

The Breda Fishings are renowned for their variety and productivity. With over 20 named pools, the river flows through a classic mix of shallow streamy runs and deeper holding pools that carry salmon for much of the year.

The river here is of modest width at approximately 25 metres, making it easily fished by wading in normal conditions and comfortably from the bank in higher water.

While famed for Atlantic salmon and sea trout, the River Don is equally celebrated for producing some of Scotland’s finest wild brown trout, offering rewarding sport throughout the season.

A Proven Record

Historic catch records from the 1990s show seasons of around 100 salmon, representing approximately 5 percent of the total River Don catch at that time. This is clear testament to the quality of this water when carefully managed and fished.

Beats and Access

The fishing comprises 2.5 miles of single bank water and is available either as one complete beat or as two individual beats, each with approximately 10 named pools.

Both beats benefit from easy pedestrian access along a wide bank and excellent four wheel drive access. On the upper sections the river runs beneath a steep wooded hillside before opening downstream into rich farmland, creating an ever changing and beautiful fishing landscape.

This particular stretch of the 2.5 mile beat on this stretch of the River Don is renowned as being one of the best beats for organic wild brown trout
